Transit for the People: Next Steps on Governance and Funding
Challenges in bringing back transit riders after COVID – and already declining ridership prior to COVID – will lead to a $730 million annual “fiscal cliff” beginning in 2026 after federal emergency funds are expended. New and innovative strategic plans from RTA and Metra, CMAP’s Plan of Action for Regional Transit, and legislation sponsored by State Senator Ram Villivalam and Representative Eva-Dina Delgado to consolidate the RTA and its three service boards are all bold steps to leverage the moment to fundamentally rethink how we deliver mobility in Northeast Illinois.
Join the Lincoln Forum, the American Council of Engineering Companies of Illinois (ACEC-IL), and The Union League Club of Chicago on June 25 at 11:30 am as we hear from the leaders who are reshaping the region’s vision for transit.
This lunch event will feature a panel with RTA Chairman Kirk Dillard, Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning Executive Director Erin Aleman, Illinois State Representative Eva-Dina Delgado (D), and Illinois State Senator Don DeWitte (R), and moderated by Fox 32 Chicago Political Reporter Paris Schutz.
