Wednesday, October 14
Lunch event – 11:30 a.m. CT
Union League Club of Chicago
Lincoln Forum, the Union League Club of Chicago State and Local Government Subcommittee, with POLITICO as media partner, invite you to a conversation with Cook County State’s Attorney Eileen Burke.
As she nears the two-year mark in office, State’s Attorney Burke will discuss her efforts to professionalize the State’s Attorney’s Office, expand services for crime victims, and address some of the most pressing issues facing Cook County’s criminal justice system.
The conversation will also examine Burke’s call for significant reforms to the growing use of electronic monitoring as a form of pretrial release, including her concerns about defendants charged with serious violent crimes being placed on electronic monitoring and the safeguards she believes are needed to better protect the public while preserving the central principles of the Pretrial Fairness Act.
Craig Wall, political reporter for ABC 7 Chicago, will moderate this candid discussion about public safety, criminal justice reform, and the direction of one of the nation’s largest prosecutors’ offices.
